November 26, 2011 (San Diego) Updated 3 p.m.—California Highway Patrol reports 60 arrests in San Diego County for driving under the influence (DUI) from 6 p.m. Wednesday evening through 6 a.m. Saturday morning. Two fatalities have occurred thus far over the Thanksgiving weekend locally.

Countywide, arrests are nearly even with last year, when 59 people were arrested for DUIs during the same holiday period. In East County, at least one driver was arrested for DUI after his vehicle rolled over on Highway 79 between Santa Ysabel and Warner Springs yesterday afternoon.

Statewide, 903 people have been arrested (down from 975 last year), however 14 fatalities occurred (up from 11 during the 2010 holiday weekend). Of the vehicle fatalities statewide, 9 occurred in CHP’s jurisdiction—and all seven victims were not wearing seatbelts.   In addition to motorists, one bicyclist and a pedestrian were also killed.
