July 15, 2012 (San Diego) – The 40th annual Festival of the Bells continues today, with the annual Blessing of the Animals at 3 p.m.

The Festival celebrates the anniversary on which Mission San Diego de Alcala, the first of San Diego’s 21  missions, was founded by Father Junipero Serra in 1769.

The Mission is located at 10818 San Diego Mission Road, San Diego, Ca. 92108. MAP

All five Mission bells are rung during the weekend festivities, including an original bell dating back to 1802. The “Festival of the Bells” includes music, food, and other activities for the family along with an opportunity to learn more about this historic landmark.
