CAPLAN LEADS SDSU WITH FOURTH PLACE FINISH AS SDSU DIVERS COMPETE AT UCLA

January 12, 2018 (Los Angeles) - The San Diego State swimming and diving team had six divers compete at the Bruin Invite at UCLA on Friday. The three-day event started with 1-meter competition, with two of SDSU’s six divers reaching the finals in the 55-diver field. The Aztecs were one of five teams in the 13-team field to have multiple divers reach the finals.

Alexandra Caplan led SDSU with a fourth-place finish in the finals, posting a 566.20. Caplan trailed only a pair of Stanford divers (currently No. 5-ranked swimming and diving team in the nation by CSCAA) and competition leader Eloise Belanger of UCLA.

Delaney Gallagher also reached the finals, posting the field’s 13th-best preliminary round score at 249.55, before finishing her day with a 475.90 and finishing 18th overall. 

Nicole Dutton, Marie Yacopino, Erica Sarver, and Emily Reed also competed for the Aztecs. Dutton finished 22nd in the preliminary round, just missing the cut for the finals with a score of 230.00. Yacopino, Sarver, and Reed finished with scores of 218.75, 207.40 and 154.05, respectively. Sarver’s score was the 10th best among the 22 freshmen in action.

The divers pick action back up in Los Angeles tomorrow at 10:30 a.m. with 3-meter action. Following tomorrow, the Aztecs conclude the Bruin Invite on Sunday with platform competition.
