East County News Service

February 27, 2016 (San Diego) -- A free accordion concert will be presented at Mission Trails Regional Park’s visitor center on Sunday, February 28 at 3 p.m.  Diana Abed studied the accordion in multi-cultural Los Angeles as a child in the 1960s and ‘70s, including Hollywood entertainment industry standards, pop tunes and compositions of famous accordionists at that time.  As the daughter of immigrant parents, somehow she was "elected" as the family musician, leading many sing a-longs and dances at celebrations of family and friends from varying ethnicities.

SOME PLAY: PICKWICK PLAYERS PRESENT CHARLOTTE'S WEB FEB 19-28

By Kathy Carpenter, Associate/Youth Reviewer www.sdtheatrereviews.com

February 24, 2016 (Santee) - The Pickwick Players in Santee are a different kind of group. They perform adult plays, children's plays, and mixed plays with people of all ages, as with "Charlotte's Web," based on the book by E.B. White, published by Harper Collins in 1952.What makes this unique is that it's rare. We have many youth productions, adult productions, adult productions with a kid or two. However, besides St. John of the Cross in Lemon Grove, which does a mix of all ages in their plays once a year, in the spring (This year they are doing a Poppins in April - call rectory for more details), I don't see this combination often.. Four adults, two teenagers, and 13 incredible youngsters were all part of the Pickwick Players’ cast.

DEADPOOL FILM REVIEW

February 20, 2016 - It’s been a couple of days since I’ve watched the film and the key question I have about Deadpool is whether I would have loved it as much if it was released in 2008, the same time as Iron Man. I really don’t know the answer to that question.

‘ROMANCE OF THE PORTRAIT’ EXHIBIT CONTINUES THROUGHOUT FEBRUARY

East County News Service

Editor’s note: Inka Zamoyska has generously donated artwork recently to benefit East County Magazine.  Here is an opportunity for readers who love her amazing work to view an exhibition of her exquisite oil paintings.

February 17, 2016 (Carlsbad) -- “This occasion truly felt like an ‘Affair of the Heart’. It seemed like a movie in progress sometimes with the excitement, exuberance of the attendees who were caught up in the ambiance and spirit of the evening. One of the highlights was when Inka was asked to speak to the group and describe her journey through art, her experience and particularly, her evolution toward portraiture painting. The rapt attention of everyone toward what she was expressing was immutable; everyone was entranced, caught up in the story, delighting in the fact that she was giving them some insight into this artful pursuit; a mystical moment.”
