COUGAR SIGHTING NEAR SCHOOL IN POWAY

Update October 12:  A second cougar sighting occurred today within a mile of the school.  

October 11, 2011 (Poway) – Chaparral Elementary School in Poway has sent a warning letter to parents advising that the Sheriff’s Department reported that a mountain lion, also known as a cougar, had been seen in the neighborhood this morning.

 

Students were kept indoors for about an hour while deputies checked the area. According to the North County Times, teachers and staff will be supervising students as they leave campus this afternoon.
