CYCLIST KILLED IN COLLEGE AREA

February 11, 2010 (San Diego) – Juan Carlos Navarro, 38, was struck and killed February 8th by a dump truck while riding on his bicycle. Navarro was riding on a sidewalk on 54th Street at College Grove Drive when he attempted to pass a dump truck that was parked in a crosswalk, according to the Medical Examiner's report based on information provided by police.

 

Paramedics performed CPR but were unable to save Navarro, who was pronounced dead on the scene shortly after 1 p.m. San Diego Police are investigating the accident.

Don't ride on the side walk and against traffic!

When I first heard about this, I thought it happened because the truck turned right into the cyclist, which is actually very common in this area, of which I also ride. But, yesterday, I just saw a cyclist do EXACTLY the same thing this article described at almost exactly the SAME TIME at the SAME intersection.

Please, unless you are a little child, don't ride on the sidewalk, and certainly don't ride against traffic.
