Additional Long-Term Closures also Announced

October 17,2011 (San Diego) -- Trolley construction will necessitate the closures of downtown area Trolley stations and streets for the weekends of Oct. 21-23 and Oct. 28-30. The work is all part of the $620 million Trolley Renewal project to rebuild the Orange and Blue Trolley lines. The closures will begin at 9 p.m. on Fridays and end late Sunday nights or early Monday mornings. Riders should allow an extra 30 minutes for travel time.

Oct. 21-23 & Oct 28-30 weekend closures include:
  •          No trolley service between Old Town Transit Center and City College Transit Center. Substitute shuttle bus service will be provided.
  •          No trolley service between the Convention Center Station and America Plaza Station. There will be no substitute shuttle bus service. Passengers can use either the Convention Center or the relocated America Plaza station.
  •          Broadway closed between Kettner Boulevard and Pacific Highway.
  •          Kettner Boulevard closed between Broadway and A Street.
  •          An unrelated construction project on track in Carlsbad will affect Amtrak, COASTER and Metrolink service. Amtrak customers will be bused between Oceanside, Solana Beach and Santa Fe Depot. COASTER passengers will be bused between Oceanside, Carlsbad Village and Poinsettia stations. Metrolink services will be suspended in Orange and San Diego counties during these weekends.
  •          Route 992 will be re-routed at west end of downtown and bus stops will be closed on Broadway at Columbia, Broadway at Kettner; Broadway at Pacific Highway; and Harbor Drive at the Cruise Ship Terminal. Riders can use bus stops at either Broadway at Union or State at C Street.
  •          No Vintage Trolley Silver Line service

Additionally, the America Plaza Station will be relocated two blocks east to C Street between Columbia Street and State Street beginning October 21 through late December. America Plaza will be renovated during that period.

These Trolley station and street closures are necessary to replace overhead electrical wire and raise station platforms. At the end of the three-year construction project, new low-floor trolley cars will operate throughout the MTS Trolley network and passengers will enjoy faster trips, better on-time performance, and enhanced amenities including next arrival electronic message boards and new shelters. Work will also include Quiet Zone improvements in the downtown area for heavy rail. To stay up to date on construction activity, use the new MTS texting subscription service. To subscribe, text the word STATIONS to GOMTS (46687). Standard texting rates may apply. MTS will send out important updates about closures. Riders can also get information at:
