August 19, 2018 (San Diego) - The Padres are surprisingly holding their own against the Diamondbacks, winning one yesterday.  Today was their chance to split the series and avoid embarrassment against Zack Greinke for the Dbacks, who faced Brett Kennedy.

In the bottom of the first, Travis Jankowski was tagged out stealing third, but it didn’t matter; the Padres got another man on base and Hunter Renfroe destroyed a home run to left center for two runs to give the Padres a 2-0 lead.

The Dbacks got one back in the second with Jeff Mathis’ RBI single to center that scored Daniel Descalso to make it 2-1.

David Peralta finished the job in the third with a line drive homer to right that tied the game.

The Padres got on top again with Renfroe’s looping RBI single to center that scored Wil Myers in the sixth that gave the Friars a 3-2 lead.

But the Dbacks took it right back in the eighth with Descalso’s homer just over the right field wall that tied up the game once more.

A.J. Pollock lifted the Dbacks to the lead in the ninth with a solo homer to left center to give the Dbacks the series win with a 4-3 victory.

The Padres get a day off before heading to Coors Field for a three-game midweek series with the Rockies.  First pitch Tuesday is at 5:40 p.m.
