August 12, 2018 (San Diego) - The Padres and Phillies are split in the Phils’ visit to Petco Park and today, the Padres had the chance to take the series against an ace who’s sort of fallen from grace, Jake Arrieta, against Joey Lucchesi.

The Padres knocked Arrieta around in Philly and they did it again at home, starting in the first with Hunter Renfroe’s sac double play that scored Travis Jankowski to give the Padres a 1-0 lead.
The Padres kept leaving runners on base, but Freddy Galvis changed that in the third with his first career grand slam against his old ball club just over the center field wall to give the Padres a big 5-0 lead.
They added more in the seventh when Jankowski made his way to third.  The Phillies tried to be slick and get the runner at home, but Mikael Franco’s throw went past Jorge Alfaro (who had a completely dismal game), allowing Jankowski to score and make it 6-0.
But this is the Padres we’re talking about, so a shutout was out of the question.  In the eighth, Rhys Hoskins grounded into a fielder’s choice after Cory Spangenberg’s throw got past Eric Hosmer, allowing Andrew Knapp to score.  Nick Williams lined to right and secured a triple.  Hoskins scored.  Carlos Santana hit a looping double to center that Williams scored on and the Phillies cut the lead in half to 6-3.
Luckily, the Phillies countered with their own Padres’ing in the bottom of the eighth.  Spangenberg bunted and Wade Davis’ throw to first was too wide, allowing Spangenberg to reach base and Galvis to score.  A.J. Ellis hit a sac fly to center, allowing Christian Villanueva to score.  Hosmer grounded out to score Spangenberg and the Padres solidified their series win over the Phillies with a 9-3 win.
The Padres stay home for an interleague matchup against the Angels.  Game one tomorrow night is at 7:10 p.m.  Andrew Heaney starts for L.A. against Clayton Richard.
