December 23, 2011 (El Cajon) -- At approximately 6:02 p.m. on Wednesday, December 21, 2011, El Cajon Police Officers and Heartland Fire & Rescue crews responded to reports of a pedestrian being struck by a vehicle in the roadway, in the 1200 block of Jamacha Road,  in El Cajon.

The 20-year-old driver of the white Nissan Sentra that struck the pedestrian stopped immediately after the collision, cooperating with Traffic Investigators.  A passerby, who heard the collision, also stopped and attempted to render first aid until paramedics arrived. After Fire/Paramedics arrived on scene the 17-year-old pedestrian was pronounced deceased a short time later.

A skateboard was found near the victim. He was not wearing any protective gear and was dressed in dark clothing.   Speed or alcohol is not a factor in this incident.

This investigation is ongoing and information about the victim is not being released pending family notification.  Anyone with information regarding this collision is encouraged to contact the El Cajon Police Department Traffic Division at (619) 441-1632.

The 1200 block of Jamacha Road was closed between Granite Hills Drive and Grove Road for several hours as a result of this collision.

Note:  In the last couple of months three pedestrians have been struck and killed.  A safety reminder - when walking, pedestrians should walk facing traffic.  When walking at night, wear light colored clothing or reflective tape to be seen, especially in poorly lit areas.
