July 27, 2016 (La Mesa) - Remember the good times you've enjoyed with your girlfriends over the years? The Dixie Swim Club is the story of five friends who won a championship swim meet together in college. They bonded together and meet every year on the Outer Banks off the coast of North Carolina at the same rental beach cottage. Best friends stay together no matter what.

In The Dixie Swim Club, we see four different years spaced apart in five year increments initially and 23 years later for the final scene. A lot transpires, as in a family: laughing, arguing, teasing, growing, and changes. The cast makes us laugh, think and gives us some heartfelt moments.

This is a play you need to celebrate with those with whom you have longtime friendships. Forget the men--find your girlfriends, come and enjoy the play. Then go for dessert and remember your good times together.

Jerry Pilato directed, Donnalee Braymore, who played Jeri Neal, the sweet naive one, Sandy Hotchkiss, who played Sheree, the organizer of the bunch, Christine MacCoy, Vernadette, the clown, Devi noel, Lexie, the flirt and Connie Terwilliger, Dinah, the lawyer: a diverse cast who came together to show true friendship is for a lifetime.

The program features the five friends hidden behind a beach towel, with sun hats on and legs protruding beneath the towel. Cute. The set is a nice comfy and inviting beachy cottage interior, with beach music playing between scenes instead of just leaving us sitting in the dark--a nice touch to the mood.

Next show for Lamplighters will "Duck Hunter Shoots Angel." Sounds interesting, doesn't it? September 2 - October 2, 2016.

Lamplighters Theater is located at 5915 Severin Dr., La Mesa.
