September 9, 2014 (Alpine)--This isn’t the kind of “rock art” that hikers in the backcountry want to see.

Vandals have defaced numerous large boulders at Wright’s Field preserve in Alpine with graffiti tags, including pornographic images and swastikas, the Back Country Land Trust reports.

This isn’t the first time that the graffiti taggers have struck the region. During the summer, other boulders on private property adjacent to the preserve were also tarnished with graffiti.

The Sheriff’s Department and County Code Enforcement officials have been notified to investigate and will be taking corrective action to address this recent graffiti vandalism.

In the meantime, community members and hikers are asked to please report any suspicious activity at Wright’s Field directly to the Sheriff’s Department at (858) 565-5200. You can also contact the Back Country Land Trust directly by calling (619) 504-8181, or emailing openspaces@bclt.org.
