March 3, 2018 (Santee) – The Sheriff’s office is seeking a man in a red van who reportedly approached two teen girls in a vehicle in the parking lot at the Santee Sports Plex and chased one of the young women.

The incident occurred March 1st around 11 p.m. when the girls were attending a softball game. They had returned to their vehicle to warm up when an Hispanic man approached and looked through the window. One girl locked the door and the man then grabbed the handle and tried to get in, the girl’s father told 10 News.

He walked away and the teens believed he had left.  One of the girls got out and ran towards Sportsplex to find her father. The man then “jumped out from behind a vehicle and briefly chased her,” says Lieutenant Chris Steffen with the Santee Sheriff’s station.

The suspect got into an early 1970s model dark red minivan with faded paint and a sticker on the back window, then drove out of the parking lot.

He is described as Hispanic, approximately 32 years old, 5 feet 9 inches tall, weighing 170 pounds. He had short brown hair, was clean shaven, and wore a black hoodie, black pants, and a black and white backpack.  His right eyebrow had two shaved lines through it.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Sheriff’s communications center at (858) 565-5200.
