May 5, 2016 (San Diego) - The other New York team came to San Diego for the start of a four-game series on Cinco de Mayo.  Jacob DeGrom started for the Mets and Colin Rea for San Diego.

Wil Myers started the Cinco de Mayo festivities with a solo home run to give the Padres a 1-0 lead.

In the second, Colin Rea did probably the first good thing he’s done all season and hit an RBI single to score Derek Norris and the Padres went up 2-0.

In the third, the Pads scored their third run in as many innings when Alexei Ramirez doubled to score Brett Wallace to make it 3-0.

The Padres gave the scoring a break for an inning, then Norris hit a home run, his second of the season, in the sixth for a 4-0 Padres lead.  Jon Jay hit a ball to left center that couldn’t be caught by Michael Conforto, then the play couldn’t be made at second, allowing Jemile Weeks to score and the Padres led 5-0.

The Mets got a run back on a Curtis Granderson solo homer in the ninth to make the score 5-1 Padres.  Yoenis Cespedes hit a two-run homer to cut the score to 5-3.  Andy Green realized that putting Brad Hand in wasn’t a good idea, so Fernando Rodney came in and closed the game easily.

Overall, a great game, Colin Rea finishes with a two-hitter and the Padres get the 5-3 win.  Game two is tomorrow night at 7:40.  Noah Syndergaard for New York and Drew Pomeranz for the Padres--another good pitching matchup--will be on the mound.
