February 14, 2012 (La Mesa)-- The City of La Mesa has awarded a construction contract to replace the sewer pipe beneath University Avenue from Massachusetts Avenue to Harbinson Avenue.  Construction is scheduled to take place at night, between the hours of 9:00 p.m. and 6 a.m. beginning February 15. The work is expected to take four weeks to complete.

During construction hours, University Avenue westbound between Massachusetts Avenue and Harbinson Avenue will be closed to through traffic. Traffic will be detoured to Massachusetts Avenue, Boulevard Drive, Marian Drive and back to University Avenue at Harbinson Avenue.  Westbound University Avenue will remain open during the day and weekends.  There will be no impact to eastbound traffic.

Doing the work at night will create the least impact to traffic flow and businesses.  Night work also allows the construction to be completed more quickly and therefore minimizes disruptions, according to the City, which apologizes for any inconvenience during the construction period.  Should you have any questions, please call the City of La Mesa Engineering Division at 619)667-1166.
