April 25, 2016 (San Francisco) - The Padres started a 14 game road trip, but bad luck always seems to follow them wherever they go.  Tonight, their bad luck came in the form of Giants starter Madison Bumgarner, who pitched lights out as usual.  It didn’t help that Drew Pomeranz was starting and he’s no MadBum.

The Padres kept the Giants quiet for an inning, but in the bottom of the second, Angel Pagan singled and scored Brandon Belt (who was issued a leadoff walk) for a 1-0 San Fran lead.

In the third, the Padres got it back.  Jemile Weeks doubled and Jon Jay drove him in on a single to tie the game at one.

In the fourth, Hunter Pence drove it over the low left field wall for a solo home run and a 2-1 Giants lead. Pagan doubled and drove in Belt and the Giants extended their lead to 3-1.

In the fifth, Pence hit a sacrifice fly and a earned a second RBI and the Giants went up 4-1.

The Padres got one back in the sixth on Derek Norris’ RBI double to cut the Giants’ lead to two at 4-2.

In the seventh, no one else but Buster Posey took advantage of a hanging curveball from Carlos Villanueva and launched over the wall in left for a solo homer and a 5-2 Giants lead.

The Padres rallied in the eighth; Alexei Ramirez singled and scored Matt Kemp to cut the Giants’ lead to two again at 5-3.  Brett Wallace singled and scored Melvin Upton, Jr. and suddenly, the Giants held only a one run lead, 5-4.  But an eighth inning rally would be all the Pads would get as the Giants take game one 5-4.  Game two is tomorrow night at 7:15 p.m and the pitching matchup isn't any easier; Johnny Cueto will square off against James Shields.
