May 8, 2016 (San Diego) - Today went pretty much the same way as last night went for the Padres, only more painful. On Mother’s Day, of all days.  Andrew Cashner squared off against Matt Harvey for the Mets.

Eric Campbell singled for the Mets in the second, driving in Kevin Plawecki and New York took a 1-0 lead.  Asdrubal Cabrera singled and drove in Campbell to make the score 2-0 Mets.

In the third, Yoenis Cespedes hit a solo home run to make the score 3-0.

The Padres got two runs back in the fifth with Christian Bethancourt’s two-run homer to narrow the Mets’ lead to one at 3-2.

But just like last night, the Mets extended their lead.  Cabrera singled and drove in Harvey for a 4-2 Mets lead.

In the seventh, Mets reliever Jim Henderson balked and Bethancourt was waved home, making the score 4-3 Mets.

The Padres loaded the bases in the eighth, but Antonio Bastardo came in to strike two batters out and get one to pop up and the Mets kept their one run lead to win it 4-3 and split the series with the Pads 2-2.

In transaction news, the Padres recalled outfielder Jose Pirela from AAA El Paso and placed Jemile Weeks on the 15-day disabled list with the right hamstring strain he sustained last night.

Andrew Cashner left the game for precautionary reasons for his hamstring.  The Pads are jetting to Chicago to face the Cubs starting tomorrow night.  Cesar Vargas and Jon Lester will be the starting pitchers.
