June 22, 2016 (Baltimore) – The Padres looked to build the momentum from their big win against the Os last night and sweep them tonight.

No rain delay tonight, so the game was underway at the scheduled start time:  4:05 p.m.  Erik Johnson took the mound for San Diego against Ubaldo Jimenez for Baltimore.

The Padres got started right away again.  Matt Kemp singled in the first, scoring Travis Jankowski and the Padres took a 1-0 lead coming out of the gate.

But this was a sweep opportunity, so you can probably guess what happened the rest of the night.  Mark Trumbo hit a solo homer and the Orioles tied the game at one in the second.

In the third, Adam Jones was waved around third from first on a Jonathan Schoop double and the Orioles took a 2-1 lead.

Matt Wieters singled in the fourth and the Os took a 3-1 lead.

The Padres got a run back on Kemp’s RBI single, driving home Jankowski just like the first inning and the Orioles led 3-2.

Ryan Flaherty homered, his third of the season, in the fifth to give the Orioles a 4-2 lead.  And then of course, in typical Padres fashion, the bases were loaded with no outs.  Carlos Villanueva came in to pitch, but the Orioles didn’t care; a wild pitch caused Jones to come home and the Os went up 5-2.  Chris Davis was hit by a pitch, making Hyun-soo Kim score and the Os went up 6-2.

Kim singled in the sixth, driving in Flaherty and the Os led 7-2.  They’d go on to win and avoid the sweep, but the Padres get another chance against the birds next week.

The Padres head to the Great American Ballpark in Cincinnati for the first time this season to take on the Reds.  The first pitch is at 4:10 p.m.
