PARENTS ARRESTED IN DEATH OF BABY LEFT OVERNIGHT IN CAR

July 28, 2013 (El Cajon) – Today, El Cajon Police announced the arrest of Israel Soto and Jessica Quezada for the death of their four-month-old baby. The couple’s other three children, ages 3, 2, and 1, have been taken into protective custody by Child Protective Services.

Yesterday afternoon at 1:30 p.m., police responded to a 911 call at 545 North Mollison, Apartment 55, reporting that the infant was not breathing. When officers arrived they immediately began CPR on the infant until paramedics arrived.  Fire personnel transported the infant, who was unresponsive, to an area hospital where the baby died shortly after arrival.

An investigation determined the parents had left the baby in their car overnight after returning from shopping on July 26th. The infant was discovered in the vehicle by family members shortly before calling the police at approximately 1:30 PM on July 27th.

“As a result of this criminal negligence both parents were arrested and later booked into County Jail,” Lt. Frank La Haye reported. Soto 30 yrs., was charged with willful Cruelty to a child with injury/ death. Quezada, 23, was charged with willful cruelty to a child with injury/death and posession of a controlled substance.

The County Medical Examiner’s Office has yet to determine the exact cause of death of the infant. This investigation is ongoing and anyone with information regarding this investigation is encouraged to contact the El Cajon Police Department at 619-579-3311.
