April 19, 2012 (San Diego) – A trio of performances this weekend at Mission Trails Park include the play “Squawk”, Edgar Allen Poe readings, and a Santee Community Chorus Concert.  Scroll down for details, or visit www.mtrp.org.

On April 20 from 3:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. the play “Squawk” will be performed.  It touches on human conflict and competition in a metaphorical story about the birds of the world engaged in a bitter but comical struggle to choose a winner of a peace song competition.  The performance is free and will be performed by the SDSU Theater Arts Department in the Visitor Center Amphitheater.

The Santee Community Chorus will perform April 21 at 3:00 p.m. in the Visitor Center Theater.  The Chorus sings secular music, ranging from Disney to Mozart in what Director Elizabeth Kimery calls “simple but beautiful arrangements”.  The Chorus was founded in May of 2011 by former opera singer Elizabeth Kimery.

“The Domain of Arnheim” by Edgar Allen Poe will be read on April 22 at 3:00 p.m. in the Visitor Center Amphitheater as part of the National Endowment for the Arts’ program “Shades of Poe, The Big Read”.  It is presented by WriteOutLoud, founded by San Diego actors Veronica Murphy and Walter Ritter, to inspire challenge and entertain by reading short stories aloud for a live audience. The free program brings together partners across the country to encourage reading for pleasure.
