April 23, 2011 (Santee) – Sheriff’s Bomb and Arson squad responded to a call of a possible pipe squad in a gutter in the 9500 block of Cuyamaca Street in Santee Thursday evening. The device, a foot-long, three-inch-wide PVC pipe, was capped at both ends which appeared to be glued shut. No wires were visible.

Deputies cordoned off the nearby Home Depot parking lot and a section of the Target parking lot located across the street. Both lanes of Cuyamaca were shut down to traffic between Mission Gorge and Town Center.

After detonation, the pipe was found to be filled with ½ inch to 1-inch rocks.
