CRASH KILLS DRIVER, 22, IN EAST COUNTY

April 12, 2017 (El Cajon) – A 22-year-old driver died last night after his vehicle rolled down an embankment and struck a steel pole supporting a billboard. The fatal crash occurred shortly before 10 p.m. along westbound I-8 west of Los Coches Road in unincorporated El Cajon.
According to Officer Kevin Pearlstein with the California Highway Patrol, the driver’s vehicle drifted into a dirt center divide. “He over corrected back to the right, and traveled down the embankment located to the north of the roadway,” Pearlstein said.
The driver died at the scene. No other vehicles were involved and it is unclear if alcohol and or drugs were a factor, Officer Pearlstein added.
