SPEAKERS ON MIDEAST GEOPOLITCS AND VOTING RIGHTS ACT JUNE 26

June 20, 2017 (Rancho Bernardo) – Farouk Al-Nasser, president of the San Diego World Affairs Council, will offer his perspective on geopolitical events in the Middle at a meeting of the Rancho Bernardo Democratic Club on Monday, June 26th. In addition, former Assemblyman Nathan Fletcher will speak on the Voting Rights Act. Refreshments and registration start at 6:30 p.m. with the program starring at 7 p.m. at The Remington Club II, 16916 Hierba Drive. This event is free of charge and open to the public.
Currently, Fletcher is a Professor is at University of California San Diego and was recently featured in this story in the Union Tribune about his class on the Voting Rights Act and efforts to disenfranchise voters throughout the history including the present day. He will discuss this unique history and provide a call to action to ensure voting rights and ballot access are a part of all progressive efforts. As a former assemblyman and combat veteran of the Unites States Marine Corps, Fletcher is a tireless advocate for American’s veterans. He serves on the board of Organizing for Action, the Headstrong Project, and PANA San Diego. Fletcher and his wife Lorena Gonzalez Fletcher reside in City Heights with their four children.
Farouk Al-Nasser was born in Iraq and is a graduate of Baghdad University, the University of Colorado and the University of Denver with B.Sc., M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees in Electrical Engineering, respectively. During his 42 year career in the high tech industry, he held technical, operational and senior executive management positions at Fortune 500, mid-size and start-up companies in California and Colorado. He is the founder of two data storage companies in San Diego County. In 2003 he joined a Fortune 500 San Diego-based Corporation as an Executive Director of the Iraqi Operations. Al-Nasser, now retired makes presentations to civic, social and non-profit organizations and local universities on topics focused on the Middle East – its history and its geopolitics. He is a past President of the San Diego World Affairs Council and a member of the Continuing Education Center at Rancho Bernardo Academic Committee.
