September 25, 2017 (Lakeside) -- Girls, boys, moms and dads celebrated the first Wonder Woman Day on Sept. 23 at the Lakeside Public Library!
More than 50 people filled the children’s section of the small San Diego County library at 9839 Vine St. Many girls wore Wonder Woman costumes.
The library celebrates one super hero a year. This year, said Youth Librarian Christina Patterson, the DVD release of 2017’s very successful “Wonder Woman” movie prompted the library honor for the long-time heroine.
“It’s because she’s famous right now,” said Patterson, who watched the “Wonder Woman” television show as a child in the 1970s. “Co-workers helped me with (the event) and went with it. I liked the movie because it respected men as well as women, showing that it took both (to help the world).”
As a Wonder Woman television episode played in the background, children solved puzzles, created crafts and posed for photographs with their heroine’s poster. The youngsters also enjoyed refreshments, won drawing prizes and listened to Patterson reading a story.
Shelly Webster and Brooke Gloss, 14-year-old Lakeside teens sporting Wonder Woman attire, said they think the super heroine is “cool.”
“She kind of shows the confidence, I guess,” Webster said.
