COPS FIND “KEYS” TO BUNGLED BURGLARY
March 14, 2010 (La Mesa) – Two brothers who robbed a car rental business, then dropped their own car keys as they fled, have been arrested by La Mesa Police. Officials are now invetigating to determine whether the pair may have been responsible for other commercial break-ins.
Around 1:40 a.m. on Saturday, La Mesa Police responded to an alarm at Enterprise Car Rental in the 8400 block of Center Street, La Mesa. Officers found car keys at the scene that an investigation revealed belonged to the burglars, whose own vehicle was found parked near the business.
At 12:30 p.m. that same day, Jeffrey Gwin, 31 years old, of Arizona and Justin Gwin, 34 years old, of La Mesa, were arrested during a traffic stop for the listed burglary. Two search warrants were served at a motel room and residence in La Mesa as part of this investigation and additional evidence was collected.
Both Gwin brothers were booked into County Jail on one count of commercial burglary. La Mesa detectives will be working with outside police agencies to learn if these suspects are wanted in other commercial burglaries.
