June 8, 2019 (El Cajon) -- Six ducklings trapped in a storm drain in El Cajon are lucky ducks -- rescued by Heartland firefighters with help from animal rescue personnel.

Firefighters responded to a call at 1:20 p.m. Saturday reporting the situation.  The firefighters found the ducklings under a storm grate in the 200 block of Fletcher Parkway, with no mother duck around.

"Firefighters were able to remove the grates and called for the assistance of animal control. While playing duck sounds on their phone to lure them out, firefighters and animal control were able to use a net to rescue each duckling one by one," says Fire Captain and Public Information Officer Sonny Saghera.

He adds that all ducklings are in good health and animal control will be turning them over to Project Wildlife for release into the wild.
