September 14, 2019 (Napa) - Four members of the San Diego State men’s tennis team returned to the courts Saturday for the second wave of action at the Silverado Collegiate Invitational, battling two doubles tandems from Pacific and a pair of singles players representing Oklahoma State.
According to the results page on the R2 Sports website, the Aztecs took both encounters against Pacific, with the duo of David Hough and Jan Kirchhoff posting an 8-3 conquest of John Horoz Garner and Nathan Hampton, while Aaro Pollanen and Arnaud Restifo nearly replicated the feat in an 8-3 triumph over Akram El Sallaly and Coby McGaig.
However, SDSU came up empty in singles play against Oklahoma State, as Hough dropped a 6-4, 6-4 decision to Brady Draheim, while Pollanen apparently retired in the third set of his match after falling behind 4-0 vs. Luke Hammond. Earlier, the Aztec junior captured the first set in a tiebreaker, 7-6(5), before Hammond roared back in the second, 6-0.
The Silverado Invitational concludes on Sunday with another flight of doubles and singles competition. In addition to the Aztecs and the two previously mentioned schools, the ninth annual tournament features players from Buffalo, Hawai’i, San Francisco and UNLV.
