September 13, 2010 (El Cajon) – The City of El Cajon invites dog owners to visit the Wells Park “off leash” dog areas. “It’s perfect for those who live in a house, apartment or condo with little or no yard,” said Monica Zech, public information officer for El Cajon—and a proud dog owner.

“Maybe the lack of yard space has prevented you from getting a dog? No problem, we have a 1.4 acre “off leash” dog area that is separated into an area for large dogs and another for smaller/shy breeds with plenty of room to play in a safe controlled environment,” she added.

The fenced-in facilities are handicapped accessible with shade trees, a shelter area and a specially designed water fountain just for dogs. If you work late, lighting allows you to utilize the dog park area at night.

Built in 2004, this off leash dog area allows your dog the opportunity to socialize with other dogs. Online reviews from the public have commented that it’s “best” dog park in the County, said Zech.

Wells Park is located at 1153 East Madison Avenue. The Park is open daily from 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.

There are guidelines that pet owners need to follow in order to use the park, such as picking up after your dog, and ensuring your dog gets along well with other dogs. Any dog(s) exhibiting aggressive or unruly behavior are required to be removed immediately by its’ owner/handler. Female dogs in season are not allowed at the facility. Dog owners/handlers are personally responsible and legally responsible for their dogs and legally liable for dog bites.

Dogs may only be off a leash within the designated fenced area. Dogs must have a current license that must be on the dog’s collar. For more information please call Wells Center at (619) 441-1680.

Don’t yet have a dog? Adopt a pet at the El Cajon Animal Shelter, located at 1275 N. Marshall in El Cajon, a few blocks north of Fletcher Parkway.
