August 19, 2011 (La Mesa Patch)--Nearly 94 percent of classes at Grossmont and Cuyamaca colleges are full and the waiting list for classes has grown to more than 23,000,* say college officials.

More bicycle lanes expected following City Council adoption of long-range plan
August 18, 2011 (San Diego Union-Tribune)--The council voted 4-1, with Bob McClellan casting the dissenting vote, to amend the city general plan with a bicycle master plan. The change updates a 1981 bicycle master plan. It also means El Cajon will now be able to compete for TransNet grants that will create more bicycle lanes.
McClellan said he couldn’t support additional bike lanes in part because “I think we have enough bike lanes,” he said. He noted as well that “a big contingent (of bicycle riders) are homeless people.”

SMOKING OPPONENTS PRAISE EL CAJON LAW
August 22, 2011 (San Diego Union-Tribune)-- EL CAJON — Communities Against Substance Abuse will make a presentation to the El Cajon City Council Tuesday about the difference that the city’s tobacco retailer licensing ordinance has made.
The law was passed in 2004, making El Cajon the first city in San Diego County to pass such an ordinance.
