March 14, 2010 (Tecate) – Two Sheriff’s helicopters helped rescue a downed off-road motorcyclist early this afternoon half way up the northwest face of Tecate Peak. The 46-year-old crash victim suffered a shoulder injury at the 2,600 foot elevation level on a remote fire road.

Sheriff’s Patrol Helicopter ASTREA 1 arrived on scene first and landed a short distance from the victim. Rescue workers hiked in to render first aid. Sheriff's Hoist Rescue Helicopter ASTREA 12 arrived five minutes later. ASTREA 12 lowered a rescue specialist to the victim and he was packaged on a backboard for subsequent hoist rescue into ASTREA 12.

Once the victim was onboard the helicopter he was flown to the area of Barrett Café and transported by ground ambulance to a local hospital.
