May 25, 2016 (San Francisco) - The Padres looked to avoid the sweep against the Giants in today's matinee finale. James Shields started on the mound for San Diego against former Padre Jake Peavy for San Francisco.

The Giants started the scoring as usual with Kelby Tomlinson’s single in the second, scoring Brandon Crawford and the Giants took a 1-0 lead.  Us sportswriters like when games are predictable like this.

In the sixth, Matt Duffy singled and brought home Gregor Blanco to make the score 2-0.

Alexei Ramirez did score one run for the Padres in the seventh, singling and scoring Brett Wallace to make the score 2-1.

But Denard Span doubled in the Giants’ half of the seventh and scored Trevor Brown to make the score 3-1 Giants.

And then in the eighth, just when (if you were home - it is a Wednesday day game after all) you’ve probably turned on some daytime talk show in favor of the game, Yangervis Solarte tied the game at three with a two-run blast to left center.  There was a light at the end of the tunnel.

Once again, we went to extra innings.  But (and you had to know this was coming if you’re a Padres fan.  You had to.  There’s no excuse for you to have NOT known this was coming) Crawford saved the day again with a single in the 10th to score Duffy and the Giants swept the Padres with a 4-3 win.

The Padres have a day off tomorrow, then they’re back in action on Friday to face the Arizona Diamondbacks.  Christian Friedrich will take the mound against Robbie Ray for Arizona.
