IMPOSTERS POSE AS WATER DISTRICT EMPLOYEES, BURGLARIZE HOME IN DEL CERRO

 

(San Diego) San Diego Police Department detectives are investigating a residential burglary that occurred in Del Cerro today around12:45 p.m.  A man posing as a City of San Diego Water Department employee went to the home of an elderly couple and told them he was there to check on a problem with their plumbing. He said he needed to be allowed inside to check their faucets.

 

While the man distracted the residents, a second suspect entered the home and stole cash and jewelry from the bedrooms, Lt. Andra Brown with San Diego Police reports.

February 11, 2011 (Rolando) – San Diego Police report that around 3:26 a.m., two suspects broke the front glass doors at Change U Beauty 6463 University Ave and entered, then stole numerous human hair extensions value at about $10,000 and an undisclosed amount of money.

WOMAN ACCUSES SAN DIEGO POLICE OFFICER OF RAPE IN EL CAJON

February 7, 2011 (El Cajon) – El Cajon Police Department reports that late Wednesday night, February 2, they received a call from a hospital. The hospital informed police that a woman patient alleges that she was raped at an El Cajon residence by a San Diego Police officer and a woman.

El Cajon Police is investigating the case. ECM news partner 10 News cites sources who indentifed the officer as SDPD Vice Detective Arthur Perea.

BICYCLIST, 60, KILLED AT FRIARS & I-15

 

February 5, 2011 (San Diego) – A bicyclist traveling eastbound on Friars Road struck the side of a box truck while attempting to pass the off-ramp from northbound I-15. The cyclist fell and was run over by the truck, sustaining fatal injuries.

MAN STABBED IN ROBBERY ON EL CAJON BLVD.

 

February 2, 2011 (San Diego) – San Diego Police report that a man, 20, was punched and stabbed in the hand after refusing to hand over his wallet and cell phone to two robbers. The victim was walking on the sidewalk in the 5200 block of El Cajon Blvd.  in the Talmadge neighborhood when the altercation occurred around 10:15 last night.

MOTHER ARRESTED FOR MURDER OF DAUGHTER, 9

January 31, 2011 (San Diego’s East County) -- San Diego Police Department Homicide Unit detectives have arrested Crystal Cardenas for the murder of her daughter, Elizabeth Holloway, 9. The mother was arrested at 10:25 a.m. today while walking in the 1600 block of Canyon Road in Spring Valley.

 

On January 17 at 10:22 p.m., officers and paramedics were dispatched to the family’s home at 328 Milbrae Street in the Mountain View community when the child went into medical distress. She was taken to a trauma center, and her autopsy revealed she died from blunt force trauma.

MAN ROBS BANK, USES MOTORHOME AS GETAWAY VEHICLE

 

January 28, 2011 (Rancho Bernardo) – The FBI and San Diego Police seek the public’s help to identify a bank robber who robbed the Navy Federal Credit Union at 17030 Bernardo Center Drive around 10:35 a.m. on Tuesday, January 25th. The man, who is around 50 years old, and wore a green baseball cap demanded money from a teller and fled with the cash in an older model motorhome.

SDPD TO HOLD DUI CHECKPOINT THIS WEEKEND

 

January 27, 2011 (San Diego)--San Diego Police Department will conduct a driving under the influence (DUI) checkpoint on Friday, January 28 at an undisclosed location within city limits between 10:00 p.m. and 5:00 a.m. If officers suspect that a driver has been drinking or is impaired by drugs, they will conduct a field sobriety test.

POLICE INVESTIGATE CHILD’S DEATH IN MOUNTAIN VIEW

 

San Diego Police Department Homicide Unit detectives are investigating the death of a nine-year-old girl inside her Mountain View apartment on January 17.  On Monday at 10:21 p.m., officers were dispatched to a report of a non-breathing child at a residence in the 300 block of Milbrae Street. Paramedics transported the girl to a trauma center, where she died at 11:56 p.m.  The victim has been identified as Elizabeth Holloway.

 

  As is customary in child death cases, detectives from the  Child Abuse Unit conducted a preliminary investigation. The Medical Examiner’s Office performed an autopsy yesterday, which revealed the girl died from blunt force trauma.

WOUNDED POLICE DOG “MONTY” RETURNS TO DUTY

 

January 20, 2011 (San Diego) – Three months after suffering a gunshot wound to his head, Monty is back to full duty as a San Diego Police service dog. The canine patrol member was injured by gunfire on October 27, 2010 while he and his handler were trying to locate a suspect wanted for assault with a deadly weapon and robbery charges in a Skyline apartment. The suspect shot and killed San Diego Police Officer Christopher Wilson, then later fatally shot himself.

January 16, 2011 (San Diego) – A man, 26, tried to pass traffic by driving onto the sidewalk in his 1998 Mitsubishi Montero this morning at 8:25 a.m. at 4400 Home Avenue. His vehicle struck a 2003 Ford F-150 that was turning right onto Fairmont ahead of him, causing the F-150 to roll over and strike a 2000 GMC Yukon.

DRIVER CHARGED WITH DUI AFTER HIGH-SPEED CRASH INTO BACKYARD OF SAN CARLOS HOME

 

January 16, 2011 (San Diego)—A woman, 40, lost control of a 2007 Hummer H3 that she was driving at a high rate of speed on Mission Gorge Road at 3:25 this morning, according to San Diego Police Officer David Stafford. The vehicle plunged down an embankment and into the backyard of a house on Echo Dell Road, then struck a fence and a tree.

January 1, 2010 (San Diego) – San Diego Police responded to a radio call of a man lying in the street with a gun in his hand yesterday at 1:57 p.m. They found a Hispanic man, 29, lying in the street in the 3100 block of Calle Abajo at Paradise Hills, with gunshot wounds to his shoulder and upper back.

BURGLAR STABS HOMEOWNER IN HEAD

 

January 1, 2010 (Normal Heights)—A homeowner at 4348 38th Street in San Diego’s Normal Heights neighborhood heard a knock on his front door, but didn’t answer. Moments later, the living room window was smashed. The homeowner pursued the intruder into an alley, where a fight ensued and the homeowner was stabbed several times in the head, Officer Frank Cali with San Diego Police reports.

MURDER-SUICIDE ON COLLEGE AREA STREET

 

December 10, 2010 (San Diego) – San Diego Police homicide detectives are investigating the murder of a 22-year-old woman and the suicide of a man, 21, whom she had dated. Officers responded to a report of gunshots and found the woman lying in the street in the 4500 block of 55th Street this morning at 9:52 a.m. She had several gunshot wounds and an assault rifle was found near her body.

MAN ARRESTED FOR IMPERSONATING POLICE OFFICER IN BAR

 

December 9, 2010 (San Diego) – San Diego Police arrested Jorge Pando, 22, for impersonating a police officer. According to Sgt. Ray Battrick, Pando had been drinking at Vallartas Bar at 4125 El Cajon Blvd. around 1 a.m. when he told a woman that he was a police officer and insisted that she had to give him personal information. She refused, telling him her boyfriend was present, and Pando then flashed a badge twice.

December 3, 2010 (San Diego) – Two 16-year-olds have been arrested for assault with a deadly weapon following the stabbing of a 22-year-old woman in the Colina Del Sol neighborhood last night around 10:38 p.m. Additional suspects have been identified and are currently being sought by police.

ARREST MADE IN UCSD MURDER

November 6, 2010 (San Diego) -- San Diego Police Department Homicide Unit detectives have arrested Julio Angel Garcia-Puente for the murder of a woman whose body was found in a burning vehicle at a University of California San Diego parking lot on October 29 at 9:20 p.m. An autopsy revealed that the victim was murdered.

2 INJURED IN DRUNK DRIVING-RELATED CRASH IN ROLANDO

 

November 1, 2010 (Rolando) – Halloween Night ended badly for two 18-year-old men, who were both seriously injured after crashing into a parked car in the 4500 block of Revillo Way in Rolando last night. The driver sustained an open fracture to his leg. The passenger sustained facial fractures and a broken hip.

CARJACKERS WHO STRUCK VICTIM WITH SKATEBOARD ARRESTED

 

October 30, 2010 (San Diego) – San Diego Police report a carjacking last night around 11:30 p.m. in the 4000 block of 48th street.  Two Hispanic men n their 20s, one carrying a skateboard and the other armed with a knife, attacked a motorist and stole his car.  One struck the driver over the head with the skateboard; the suspects then pulled the victim from his car.

POLICE OFFICER FATALLY SHOT, 2 OTHERS FOUND DEAD IN SKYLINE AREA

October 28, 2010 (San Diego) – Christopher Wilson, a veteran police officer was shot last night and died early this morning, San Diego Police report. “Officers were assisting U.S. marshals and probation units in doing a compliance check, when there was an exchange of gunshots,” Lt. Andra Brown told East County Magazine. “The officer was fatally wounded and a police canine was injured as well.” The shooting occurred at the Canyon View Apartments at 479 S. Meadowbrook Drive in the Skyline area of southeast San Diego, near Paradise Valley Road.

DIRT BIKE RIDER SUFFERS HEAD INJURY

 

October 9, 2010 (San Diego) – A dirt motorcyclist who was not wearing a helmet has suffered a skull fracture after striking a planter box and being thrown off his motorcycle, landing on his head.


Helmets dramatically reduce the risk of serious injury or death for motorcyclists. According to data compiled in 2009 by the National Hihgway Transportation Safety Administration, helmets reduce the risk of death by 37% and are 67% effective in preventing brain injuries to motorcycle riders.
