LIBRARY ACOUSTIC CONCERT SERIES ANNOUNCED

 

February 6, 2011 (San Diego) -- The second annual San Diego County Library Acoustic Showcase series starts this month. With a total of 30 concerts taking place at twelve libraries across the county from February to June, the Acoustic Showcase series offers a variety of some of San Diego's best singer/songwriters, folk music performers and story tellers. These concerts are free to the community.

COMMUNITY FORUM FOR MIDDLE EASTERN IMMIGRANTS – TONIGHT 6 PM

 

February 1, 2011 (El Cajon) -- The El Cajon Police Department is hosting a community forum for the City of El Cajon’s Middle Eastern population. The event was organized for people who recently immigrated to the U.S. to help familiarize these new members of the community with local laws and services available to them in the city.

 

The forum will be held this evening, February 1st, from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. at the Ronald Reagan Community Center in El Cajon at 195 E. Douglas in El Cajon.

GIANT JADE BUDDHA IN ESCONDIDO JAN. 29-FEB. 6; LION DANCERS JOIN CHINESE NEW YEAR CELEBRATION FEB. 2-3

 

January 28, 2011 (Escondido) -- After traveling around the world and attracting almost 5 million viisitors, the fabulous four-ton Jade Buddha for Universal Peace will be displayed outside the Escondido Center for Performing Arts Jan. 29-Feb. 6.  The exhibit is sponsored by the Phat Da Buddhist Temple of San Diego.

 

Throughout the Jade Buddha's nine day, there will be multiple daily events including musical performances, meditations, Dharma teachings, and special celebrations to ring in the Lunar New Year with Chinese lion dancing on Feb. 2-3.

FREE FAMILY ARTS AND LITERACY NIGHT JAN. 27 AT KROC CENTER

 

San Diego, CA –January 20, 2011—Young Audiences of San Diego and The Salvation Army Kroc Center will host a free Family Arts and Literacy Night this Thursday, January 27th at 6:30 pm. Hundreds of families will gather in the Kroc Center Multipurpose Room-Education Building for an evening of fun for the “Build your own Global Village” event and each child will take home a brand new book.

IMPROV PERFORMANCE OPENS FEB. 4 AT GROSSMONT STAGEHOUSE THEATRE

 

January 26, 2011 (El Cajon)--The Grossmont College Theatre Arts Department will present “Inside the Actor’s Process: Improvisation,” a performance of student actors using improvisational skills, at 7:30 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 4 and 5, and at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 5.

 

Through presentations of scenes and monologues, the show will demonstrate how student actors can develop such improvisational skills as timing, team work and listening.

Officers from SDPD and other local agencies will put their athletic ability to the test to help raise money to support underserved youth in our community. Proceeds will directly benefit inner-city youth who take part in STAR/PAL programs.

RADIO DAZE: THEATRICAL PRODUCTION FEB. 10 TO RECALL GLORY DAYS OF RADIO

January 14, 2011 (La Mesa) – La Mesa Arts Alliance will present its third annual theatrical production, “Radio Daze…Again” on Thursday, February 10 in the La Mesa Community Center Arbor Room.

“Last year’s Radio Daze was so enthusiastically received that we decided dot do another evening of the wonderful old scripts from the days when the radio was the major source of information and entertainment in the home,” said LMAA' spokeperson Patricia O’Reilly. “It is a trip down Memory Lane for some of us and an introduction for others to a whole new world.”

SOMETHING FISHY: PRIZES FOR TROUT FISHING SATURDAY AT SANTEE LAKES

January 14, 2011 (Santee) – It sounds like a fish story: Santee Lakes are stocked with 13,000 pounds of rainbow trout during trout season from November through March. This stock includes large trophy trout up to 16 pounds, as well as tagged trout worth cash and prizes. The 15th annual event, presented by the City of La Mesa Human Relations Advisory Commission, is free and open to the public.

 

Featured entertainment includes appearances by the Helix Charter High School Bagpipe Band, Moreton Bay Fig Morris, an English Folk Dance Troupe, and Axis Gospel Singers. Dr. James Kitchen, Vice President, Student Affairs, San Diego State University, will serve as guest speaker.
