GROSSMONT HEALTHCARE DISTRICT AWARDS $85,000 IN SCHOLARLARSHIPS TO HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS FOR HEALTHCARE STUDIES

 

March 29, 2014 (La Mesa)--The Grossmont Healthcare District (GHD), a public agency that supports various health-related community programs and services in San Diego’s East County region, recently awarded $85,500 in scholarships to 38 high school students who have expressed interest in a career as a healthcare professional.

GROSSMONT HEALTHCARE DISTRICT OFFERS SCHOLARSHIPS FOR NURSING, HEALTH TECH STUDENTS

 

February 7, 2014 (San Diego’s East County)--The Grossmont Healthcare District (GHD) is seeking applicants for two scholarship programs, including up to two scholarships for nursing students and five scholarships for students pursuing careers as medical health technicians.

Elected officials, school district urge student participation at college aid workshops

January 25, 2014 (San Diego)--High school seniors, local elected officials and San Diego Unified School District representatives announce plans to increase the number of San Diego-area high school students applying for free college financial aid. Students are urged to attend one of 13 upcoming “Cash for College” financial aid workshops.

In 2013, San Diego region workshop participants were offered more than $3 million in federal and Cal Grant aid.

Seniors who attend a workshop and apply for a Cal Grant by the March 2 deadline could also qualify for an extra $1,000 Cash for College scholarship offered at each workshop. The workshops, titled “Free Application for Federal Student Aid & Califiornia Dream Act Application Workshops, will be held between January 25 and March 1. SCHOLARSHIP RECIPIENTS WILL BE AT ALPINE WOMAN’S CLUB LUNCHEON JUNE 18

May 23, 2013 (Alpine) – The Alpine high school graduates who are receiving college scholarships will be in attendance at the Alpine Woman’s Club last monthly luncheon for the 2012-2013 season on Tuesday, June 18 at 12:00 noon.  The new officers will also be installed at this meeting.

GIVE THE DREAM TO HELP STUDENTS STAY IN COLLEGE: MARCH 16

 

March 14, 2013 (San Diego's East County)--Give the Dream, a fundraising extravaganza to benefit Grossmont and Cuyamaca College students facing financial emergencies, will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, March 16 at three East County locations: Grossmont Center, Parkway Plaza and Santee Trolley Square Center. 

The event is being held to raise money for Dreamkeepers, a program that awards scholarships of up to $500 to students who face a financial hardship that threatens their ability to stay in college.

SCHOLARSHIPS FOR NON-CITIZENS, CITIZENS AND AB540 STUDENTS

October 29, 2012 (San Diego) –San Diego is home to immigrants and refugees from around the world.  The Mano A Mano Foundation has provided the following list of scholarships available to non-citizens as well as citizens and AB 540 students. AB540 is a California bill passed on October 12, 2001 that allows undocumented students who meet certain requirements to pay in-state tuition instead of out-of-state tuition in California's higher institutions. SCHOLARSHIP OPPORTUNITIES – DEADLINE TO APPLY IS JULY 15

July 5, 2012 (San Diego) – The Central San Diego Black Chamber of Commerce is offering 5 $1,000 scholarships.  The deadline to apply for the scholarship is July 15.  The application is available for download at www.csdbcc.com.

The scholarships will be given away on August 9 by Magic Johnson at the State Black Chamber Convention.

ALPINE WOMAN'S CLUB PRESENTS SCHOLARSHIPS AND INSTALLS NEW BOARD MEMBERS

 
June 22, 2012 (Alpine)--At the Alpine Woman’s Club’s monthly meeting on June 19, the following students were presented with $1,000 scholarships: Zachary Wiley from Steele Canyon High School; Teresa Williams from Alpine Academy; Amanda Brookshire, Victoria Pool and Evan Myres from Granite Hills High School.

It is the amount of debt each American owes if the United States national deficit was divided by the number of our citizens.

February 10, 2012 (Sacramento)-- Assemblymember Marty Block (D-78th District),  Chair of the Assembly Higher Education Committee, has joined Speaker John A. Pérez on legislation that will keep college fees down for middle class families. The Middle Class Scholarship, which was introduced by Speaker Pérez today, will close a tax loophole for out-of-state corporations in order to cut college fees for middle income families.

January 24, 2012 (La Mesa) -- The Grossmont Healthcare District (GHD, a public agency that supports various health-related community programs and services in San Diego’s East County, has presented $6,000 in scholarships to three nursing students based on their community involvement and future plans in the nursing profession. They include Karen Adams of El Cajon, Melissa Foster of La Mesa and Linda Matheny of El Cajon. Adams received $3,000, while Foster and Matheny each received $1,500. All three are nursing students at Grossmont College.

Campuses in the home stretch as deadline nears for Osher Scholarship Fund

 

June5, 2011 (El Cajon) – After several years as a stay-at-home mom with three young children, Vicki Watkins faced the prospect of going back to work after a marital split. She struggled at first to make ends meet with a near-minimum-wage job as a retail clerk, and then decided with some trepidation to return to school. At Cuyamaca College, she found the support she needed – an on-campus job and financial aid, including a $1,000 Osher scholarship, made possible by donations and matching dollars from the Bernard Osher Foundation.

HIGH SCHOOL JUNIORS & SENIORS: WIN A $1,500 SCHOLARSHIP WITH ESSAY ON BUSINESS ETHICS

 

September 9, 2010 (San Diego)--Before the new school year gets even busier for your favorite high school junior or senior, the San Diego Better Business Bureau (BBB) is inviting all 11th and 12th graders to write and submit a 400-word essay on the importance of marketplace ethics and receive up to a $1,500 scholarship from the BBB.

LA MESA AND SANTEE PAGEANTS ANNOUNCE 2nd ANNUAL SCHOLARSHIP FUNDRAISER

June 25, 2010 (La Mesa, CA) -- The cities of La Mesa and Santee will hold their second annual fashion show fundraiser,“Fashion Rocks the East,” to benefit the Miss La Mesa and Miss Santee Pageants Scholarship Fund. The fashion show will be held on Sunday, August 8th at the La Mesa Community Services Arbor Room at 3 p.m.

 

Former contestants and titleholders in the Miss La Mesa and Miss Santee programs will model wardrobe items provided by local businesses.  Ramshakle, a popular East County band, will provide live music.

GROSSMONT COLLEGE ANNOUNCES NEW SCHOLARSHIPS & MATCHING FUNDS UP TO $25 MILLION TO HELP EAST COUNTY STUDENTS AFFORD AN EDUCATION

July 5, 2009 (El Cajon)--The Grossmont College Foundation has announced that $83,500 has been raised so far --mostly from five local entities -- for six perpetual, $1,000-a-year scholarships for Grossmont College students as part of a partnership with the San Francisco-based Bernard Osher Foundation.

 

LA MESA KIWANIS AWARDS $5,400 IN COLLEGE SCHOLARSHIPS TO GRADUATING SENIORS AT GROSSMONT, HELIX, CHAPARRAL

 

Fourteen graduating seniors from East County high schools have been awarded college scholarships totaling $5,400 by the Kiwanis Club of La Mesa and the La Mesa Kiwanis Foundation. Keith Meeker, Tom LeDuc and Dick DeNure headed the scholarship committee that interviewed applicants from Grossmont, Helix and Chaparral High Schools. Those receiving the scholarships were:
