April 19, 2017 (Ramona) -- State Route 78 will be closed in both directions over the next four weekends while Caltrans crews conduct emergency repairs to stabilize the roadway and construct a retaining wall. The repairs are needed after large boulders damaged the roadway.

The closure will be from Weekend Villa Road to Indian Oaks Road, between Ramona and Escondido.

The first weekend closure will begin Friday, April 21, at 7 p.m., and will end Monday, April 24, at 5 a.m.

Detours will be in place, but motorists should expect significant traffic delays on alternative routes.

The detour will extend from Cloverdale Road/San Pasqual Road to Main Street/State Route 67 (SR-67). Eastbound motorists will be detoured south on Cloverdale Road/San Pasqual Road, south on Bear Valley Parkway/Via Rancho Parkway, south on Interstate 15, east on Scripps Poway Parkway and north on SR-67 to SR-78. Westbound motorists will follow the same detour in the opposite direction.
