WHAT'S HOT THIS WEEK? PLENTY!

February 18, 2009 (San Diego's East County)--Concerts, circus performers, art shows, the AMGEN tour and wheelchair ballroom dance lessons are among the many exciting activities coming to San Diego's eastern region this week.

Big top tents are being pitched at Parkway Plaza, where Circus Vargas opens Thursday for five days of dazzling and daredevil performances.(story: http://www.eastcountymagazine.org/?q=node/522 ) Savor a guitar concert at Grossmont College, view birds of prey at Ramona's hawk watch, or head east for Anza Borrego's Archeology Weekend. African Americana, a performance at the East County Performing Arts Center, will also be held this weekend.

Art and history lovers can view artworks by African-American artists at the Black History Month Wine & Cheese Festival in El Cajon.

Looking for a good cause to support? Attend the Olaf Wieghorst western art museum's annual "Roundup" fundraiser. Home of the Guiding Hands is also holding its "Treasures of the Far East" gala. Or have breakfast with Bakari the lion at Lions, Tigers & Bears in Descanso.

What else is hot? A hearing on Sunrise Powerlink in Lakeside Wednesday evening is bound to draw some sparks, as is a discussion of the border fence and immigration issues hosted by the East County Democratic Club.

Sports and fitness fans can watch the final leg of the AMGEN tour in Escondido, take in a lecture on quantum energetic at Curves gym, or give the kids something to flip about at Free Gymnastics Day in the Santee YMCA.
