August 20, 2016—Two Sig Alerts have been issued due to separate crashes in East County, both forcing long-term shutdowns of  major roadways.

A fatality accident has shut down State Route 67 in both directions for 8 to10 hours. Southbound 67 is closed at Archie Moore Road.  Northbound SR 67 is closed at Poway Road.   A head-on crash between a silver pickup and black Nissan reportedly occurred  on the highway just north of Cloudy Moon Road after the truck veered across the centerline.

August 19, 2016 (San Diego's East County) - One of my favorite local authors, Jan Moran, is helping me to talk about romance and writing. Jan and I “met” on Goodreads.com when I reached out to her because she had recently moved to San Diego and my Between Boyfriends protagonist is named Jan as well. We've since done two local author events together and I've found her to be as smart about publishing as she is talented at writing. August 18, 2016 (San Diego) – After an absolutely dismal series against the AL East, the Padres were ready to return home to Petco Park to face the Diamondbacks.  Paul Clemens started on the mound for San Diego against Archie Bradley for Arizona.

Update August 23,2016: The deputies involved in this shooting have been identified as Deputy Hugh Davidson, Deputy Nikholas Johnson, Deputy David Smith and Sergeant Robert Niderost. Davidson has been employed as a deputy sheriff with the San Diego Sheriff's Department for 2 years, Johnson for 10 years, Smith for 5 years, andNiederost for31 years. All involved deputies are assigned to the Poway Station.

Update August 19, 2016:  The deceased suspect has been identified as Trenton Lohman, 38, of Lakeside. He was on parole from the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation. Cause of death was a thoracic gunshot wound.

August 18, 2016 (Poway) — Deputies opened fire on an armed man who carjacked two vehicles, including a patrol car.  A wild chase along Poway Road ended in the suspect driving into a ravine, where he was found dead.
