October 12, 2019 (El Cajon) – The Welcome Newcomer Network will host its third Multicultural Festival on November 2 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at EJE Academies, 851 Johnson Ave. in El Cajon.

The event will include multicultural food, cultural dance, a show of traditional costumes, story-telling, games and raffle drawings. Organizers say that they anticipate close to 1,500 attendees this year.

The Welcome Newcomer Network (WNN) is a working group which consists of over 40 agencies, school districts, social service organization, health facilities, and the County of San Diego.  The WNN was formed to aid agencies in reaching out to our new families as they adapt to life in East County.  The mission of the WNN is to encourage respect and understanding of diverse cultures through community education and newcomer support coordination.

The festival began in  2017 to “salute and activate our newcomers to contribute to the community as fully empowered and engaged citizens,” according to WNN.

A press release from the WNN states, ““Our 2017 and 2018 festivals were both joyous and uplifting events connecting people from so many different countries, cultures and languages. Entertainment is provided by local musicians, school bands, dancers and poets. Our festival is a truly exhilarating display of the harmonious possibilities for San Diego’s fast-growing hub for our refugee and immigrant populations.
