May 15, 2016 (San Diego) -The International Rescue Committee (IRC) in San Diego’s 8th Annual International Documentary Film Series continues May 16, and 23, screening three compelling documentary films that shed light on what life is like for refugees around the world. May 15, 2016 (El Cajon) – The Olaf Wieghorst Museum and Western Heritage Center will host a show of nationally known local artists including Gloria Chadwick and Grace Schlesier starting in June.  An “Art After Five” meet the artists opening reception will be held on Thursday, June 16 from 5 to 8 p.m.

21ST ANNUAL WINE AND FOOD FESTIVAL AT BERNARDO WINERY

May 14, 2016 (Rancho Bernardo) - The 21st annual Wine and Food Festival will be held at Bernardo Winery Sunday, May 15th from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.  The event, brought to you by the San Diego County Vintners' Association, will feature unlimited tastings and food samplies for $50 -- and for $15 you can also get a designated driver.

This event showcases wines from across our region, from Sangiovese and Syrah to Cabernet Franc,Grenache and Viognier to name a few.

RIVER PARK FESTIVAL AND SD RIVER RUN 5K ON SATURDAY IN SANTEE

May 13, 2016 (Santee) – The River Park Festival and San Diego River Run 5K will take place this Saturday, May 14th from 3:30 to 8 p.m. at Town Center Community Park East, 550 Park Center Drive in Santee.

The festival is free and includes live music, a beer garden by BNS Brewing and Distilling, tree planting (sign up) , interactive booths, kids’ corner, crafts, games and activities, BMX demos by East County BMX and a free bike repair event.

CATCH A WHOPPER AT CATFISH OPENER MAY 27 AT LAKE JENNINGS

May 11, 2016 (Lakeside) -- Lake Jennings will hold its greatly anticipated Catfish Opener on Friday, May 27th. The lake will open at 4 p.m. instead of the usual 6 a.m., and will close at midnight. 2,000 lbs. of catfish will be stocked for this event.

A large selection of native milkweed plants will be on sale.

Plus we’ll have previews of coming attractions including the Ramona Rodeo and Parade, Wild in the Country at Lions, Tigers and Bears,  a Laurel and Hardy Wacky Western night in Spring Valley,  a one-man musical show at Mission Trails Regional Park, and El Cajon’s America on Main Street  celebration.

RAMONA RODEO, PARADE AND WESTERN DANCE

April 29, 2016 (Ramona) – The Ramona Rodeo takes play May 19-22, along with other activities including a parade down Main Street on the 21st and dancing to the country band Patrick Howard Trampus on the 20th and 21st after the rodeo.  There’s also a free slack rodeo performance on the 19th, as well as a kids day on the 22nd featuring the youngest cowboys and cowgirls riding sheep in the mutton bustin’ competition.

 Adult rodeo events include bull riding, bareback riding, barrel racing, a tie-down competition, steer wrestling and more. Winners may advance to the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association national rodeo championship.

With the notorious French Privateer, “The Razor,” always on his tail, and a drunken pirate head waiter who always seems to do the wrong thing, can Captain Bigbeard and his crew ever truly live a peaceful life? This is the manic tale of a stolen treasure chest, a sensational swashbuckling swordfight, mayhem, mischief, and…MURD-ARRR!!! Performances will be held on Friday and Saturday nights, April 29th and 30th, at 7:00pm and on Sunday May 1st at 2:00pm. The venue is Richardson Hall, 551 Farragut Circle, El Cajon. This year marks the 25th annual YMCA’s Healthy Kids Day®, the Y’s national initiative to improve health and well-being for kids and families.  The day-long event features activities such as games, arts, crafts, wellness education, fitness demonstrations, and water safety in preparation for the upcoming summer months. All activities are designed to motivate and teach families how to develop healthy routines at home.
