Coming soon: Finding Kitty

East County News Service

August 5, 2014 (San Diego)--Finding Rover, a new facial recognition software program, is helping to reunite lost pets with their owners. Here in San Diego, it even worked for Roxie, a Shibu Inu dog who turned up in the County Animal Shelter in Bonita.

The owner’s daughter loaded up a photo of her missing dog wearing sunglasses – not the ideal picture for a facial recognition software program.  But it was enough for a caring worker at the animal shelter to recognize the dog, who had run off after being startled by thunder.

Roxie is now home with her owners.

Next up, the County announces it is working on Finding Kitty application, which it hopes to have ready in September to help reunite lost cats with their owners, too.
