November 3, 2017 (Spring Valley) - Iron Oak Canyon Ranch is the new owner of Bright Valley Farms, an old, established East County business which, for over sixty years, provided many San Diegans with their first horseback riding experience. In August, its horse boarding/training operation was bought by Lessa and Scott Ritzma and re-named Iron Oak Canyon Ranch.
Located at 12310 Campo Road in Spring Valley, near the Sweetwater River and adjacent to the San Diego National Wildlife Refuge, Iron Oak Canyon Ranch provides an ideal setting for the horse boarding and training facility. The miles of riding trails accessible from the ranch are an attractive draw to those who board their horses at the facility.
The ranch and its amenities are being renovated and upgraded by its new owners to provide “zoo-quality” care for its horse and human clients. Lessa’s experience, which includes work at the San Diego Zoo, San Diego Safari Park, and SeaWorld, provides a strong foundation for overseeing the day-to-day work as owner/operations manager at the ranch. She has an expert working knowledge of animal behavior and safe practices. She is passionate about horses. She has a passion, as well, for San Diego’s native wildlife and environmental conservation. She loves helping the public interact respectfully with animals and nature in ways that foster a lifelong curiosity and stewardship for their wild neighbors.
Scott has eighteen years of computer and information technology experience. His role at Iron Oak Canyon Ranch will focus on streamlining administrative processes, infrastructure, and facility maintenance.
