September 10, 2012 (El Cajon) -- Cuyamaca and Grossmont colleges are holding public remembrances of the Sept.11, 2001 terrorist attacks that killed nearly 3,000 people and triggered the global war on terror.

The Associated Students  of Cuyamaca College is sponsoring an on-campus display of 2,977 flags, with volunteers from the college, student leaders from Steele Canyon and Monte Vista high schools, the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (Cal Fire), area police and fire departments and the U.S. Armed Forces setting up the display in the grand lawn starting at 6 p.m. Monday, Sept. 10, the day before a community remembrance ceremony set for 12:30 p.m. at the college at 900 Rancho San Diego Parkway in Rancho San Diego.

September 4, 2012 (Sacramento)—A bill to provide students with more accurate consumer information about private, for-profit postsecondary schools was approved by the Assembly and will head to the Governor for his consideration.

August 27, 2012 (El Cajon) -- Grossmont Union High School District and Grossmont High School celebrated the topping out of the new humanities building on Tuesday, Aug. 21. The ceremony marked the completion of the steel framing as the construction team set the final beam into place. The humanities building is scheduled for completion in spring of 2013.

Aging facilities, technology needs behind new facilities bond proposal

July 5, 2012 (San Diego) – The Central San Diego Black Chamber of Commerce is offering 5 $1,000 scholarships.  The deadline to apply for the scholarship is July 15.  The application is available for download at www.csdbcc.com.

The scholarships will be given away on August 9 by Magic Johnson at the State Black Chamber Convention.

June 29, 2012 (El Cajon) – Cuyamaca College is offering College for Kids July 9 – August 9 at 900 Rancho San Diego Parkway, El Cajon.  It is a summer enrichment program for children between the ages of 8-14 that will teach new and meaningful skills through participation in classes such as art, dance fitness, science, media and more.

June 19, 2012 (Alpine) – The Alpine Education Foundation is offering Hogwarts Academy for grades K -8th beginning June 25 from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. 

The program immerses the children in a world of wonder and imagination while the learn the science of astronomy, herbology, potions (science), riddles (language), chess (logic), care of magical creatures and ‘wizardry’ games.  A tour of Wright’s Field with a credentialed biologist/ornithologist is also on the agenda.
