November 26, 2024 (Alpine) – Nearly two years after a severe storm damaged the floating fishing dock at Loveland Reservoir in Alpine back in January 2023, a restored fishing dock is back.

When Sweetwater Water Authority drained the reservoir to dead pool status in late 2022, the fishing dock was left on dry land,  subsequently torn apart by a winter storm.

Insurance paid to repair the dock, which was originally funded by the U.S Department of Housing and Urban Development.

“It’s good to see it back.  Let’s keep it floating!” says Russell Walsh, an avid angler who has long been advocating to have the dock restored and snapped these photos.

Sweetwater has not replaced the fish that died when the lake was drained, but fortunately a few fish eggs survived and hatched, so some species are slowly repopulating.

Jesus Arreola and his son, Aiden, have also been advocated for Loveland since it was drained.  Both are enjoying some fishing on the restored dock, as shown in these photos. This Thanksgiving week, anglers are thankful for the restoration of fishing opportunities at Loveland Reservoir, while continuing to advocate for a return of dawn-to-dusk hours and trail improvements at the popular recreational destination.
