MERCEDES BENZ DEALERSHIP TO OPEN IN EL CAJON
November 11, 2014 (El Cajon) –Seeking to boost sales tax revenues for the city, the city of El Cajon has been wooing car dealerships. Car sales bring in about $4 million in sales tax annually – one-fifth of the city’s total sale tax revenues.
In December, a Mercedes Benz dealership is set to open at 875 El Cajon Blvd., the city’s 12th auto dealership. Other recent additions include BMW and Mossy Volkwagen.
El Cajon Mayor Bill Wells calls the addition of Mercedes Benz " yet another feather in El Cajon’s cap in our ongoing efforts to substantially revitalize our business community and create new jobs in our city,” UT San Diego reports.
The Council recently voted to allow Prop O, a temporary sales tax hike, to expire thanks in part to car sales taxes that have helped stabilize the city’s budget.
