April 1, 2015 (San Diego’s East County) – Unfortunately, this isn’t an April Fool’s joke. The Sierra snowpack is “the worst in a century,” according to Jeff Anderson, snow surveyor for the U.S. Conservation Source.

Anderson adds that the dismal snowfall shattered the previous record, calling it “scary.”

Lake Tahoe Basin got just 3% of its normal snowfall, to cite one extreme example.

The state has recently imposed mandatory water conservation in this fourth year of drought. and in the Central Valley, normally a major agricultural producer for the nation, fields lie fallow because wells have run dry and no outside water has been allocated. California residents are asked to please conserve water during these dry times.

NASA satellite imagery has led one NASA forecaster to predict California could run out of water in just one year.
