July 21, 2016 (Cleveland) – On Closing Night, Day Four, perhaps the biggest day of the Republican National Convention, Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump formally announced his election as Republican presidential nominee.
“Friends, delegates and fellow Americans: I humbly and gratefully accept your nomination for the presidency of the United States,” he began. “Together, we will lead our party back to the White House, and we will lead our country back to safety, prosperity, and peace. We will be a country of generosity and warmth. But we will also be a country of law and order.”
He faulted Hillary Clinton for "bad judgment" as Secretary of State, citing the rise of ISIS and terrorism. He called for a halt to immigration from terrorist-prone nations as well as illegal immigration. He pledged to repeal Obamacare (the Affordable Care Act) and to support Supreme Court justices with conservative ideology similary to the late Justice Antonin Scalia.

The other pivotal speech on closing night came from Trump’s daughter, Ivanka. In her speech, she praised her father and campaigned for women’s rights. Despite Trump’s history of sexist remarks to women, Ivanka, 34, was sure to bring up how her father hired women before many other companies did.
"He is colorblind and gender neutral," she said, a phrase which drew ire from the Twittersphere. Everyone was left wondering if Ivanka’s speech really could sway the female vote to Trump. Some women interviewed by NPR say that Ivanka’s personality, which one female interviewee described as “strong-willed” and with an entrepreneurial spirit, could be enough to sway the female vote to the millionaire and former reality TV star.
