MOTORCYCLIST KILLED IN RAMONA CRASH

May 1, 2019 (Ramona) – A motorcyclist died at the scene of a collision at 12:48 p.m. today in Ramona. According to witnesses, the rider was driving recklessly and at a high rate of speed, passing eastbound motorists on San Vicente Road left of the double solid yellow lines.
An 82-year-old motorist driving a Lincoln SUV northbound on Vista Vicente Drive came to a stop, then proceeded into the intersection to make a left turn onto San Vicente Road. The motorcycle, a 2001 Yamaha R-1, struck the left side of the Lincoln.
Life-saving efforts were attempted by two motorists who stopped at the scene, as well as by responding fire personnel, but the rider succumbed to serious injuries at the scene.
The rider was wearing a helmet at the time of the collision.
Once the identity of the rider is confirmed and the family has been notified, his identity will be released through the medical examiner’s office.
At this time, it is unknown if drugs or alcohol were factors in the fatal crash, says Officer Jeff Christy with the California Highway Patrol.
