WEEKLY EAST COUNTY SPORTS WRAP: MAY 18-25, 2019

May 30, 2019 (San Diego’s East County) – East County alumni continue making news in professional sports and college teams this week.
May 18:
Former Valhalla Norseman Greg Garcia came in as a pinch hitter and struck as the San Diego Padres were defeated by the Pittsburgh Pirates 5-3.
Also on May 18, former El Capitan Vaquero Kevin Ginkel was promoted by the Arizona Diamondbacks to their AAA affiliate, the Reno Aces, as he made an appearance on the mound, pitching one inning, giving up one walk and striking out one as they defeated the Tacoma Raniers 7-6.
Former Helix Highlander Jack Stronach who went 0 for 4 with one RBI for the Bruins.
Former Christian Patriot Kyle Stowers went 2 for 5 with two singles and one run scored for the Stanford Cardinals as they defeated Oregon State 8-5.
In San Diego State baseball news: Julian Escobedo: 1 for 3 with a single. Casey Schmitt: 0 for 4. Mike Parades pitched 1.2 innings, giving up two hits, one run, one walk and striking out two. Former Valhalla Norseman alum Casey O'Sullivan pitched 1.2 innings gave up two hits and recorded four strikeouts.
May 19:
Two former East County alums in former Valhalla Norseman Greg Garcia went 1 for 3 with a double and one run scored for the Padres as they were defeated by the Pittsburgh Pirates 5-4. Former Grossmont Foothiller Joe Musgrove improves his record to 3-4 as he pitched 6.1 innings and gave up four hits, four runs, three earned, one walk and struck out four for the Bucs.
Former Helix Highlander Matt Richardson went 0 for 3 for Utah.
Former Christian Patriot Kyle Stowers went 1 for 3 with a single for the third-ranked Cardinals of Stanford as they fell to the 11th ranked Beavers of Oregon State 5-2.
Former Helix Highlander Jack Stronach went 1 for 4 with a single, one RBI and one run scored for the UCLA Bruins as they defeated the Washington Huskies by a 14-2 score.
May 20:
Former Valhalla Norseman Greg Garcia went 1 for 4 for the Padres with a single as they defeated the Arizona Diamondbacks 2-1.
May 21:
Former Valhalla Norseman Greg Garcia came in as a pinch hitter for the Padres and grounded out in his at-bat as they defeated the Arizona Diamondbacks 3-2.
Former West Hills Wolf Pack pitcher Stephen Strasburg made an appearance as a starter for the Washington Nationals as they were defeated by the New York Mets 6-4. The Nat pitched seven innings, gave up five hits, three runs (two earned), two walks and struck out five.
In an afternoon contest, the Padres defeated the Arizona Diamondbacks by a 5-2 score. For the Padres, former Valhalla Norseman Greg Garcia went 3 for 5 with two singles, one double, one RBI with two runs scored.
Former Granite Hills Eagles alum Travis Tajeron went 1 for 4 with a home run, two RBIs and one run scored for the Syracuse Mets as they lost to the Lehigh Valley Ironpigs by 6-4 score.
May 23:
Former Granite Hills Eagle Travis Tajeron went 0 for 3 for the Syracuse Mets as they were defeated by the Lehigh Valley Iron Pigs 6-5.
Former El Capitan Vaquero Kevin Ginkel made a relief appearance for the Reno Aces as he pitched one inning, gave up one hit and recorded two strikeouts as they fell 10-4 to the Reno Aces
San Diego State baseball: Julian Escobedo went 1 for 4 with a single and Casey Schmitt went 1 for 2 with a single. SDSU was defeated by the Nevada Las Vegas Rebels 9-3 in a first round game of the Mountain West Conference Baseball Tournament.
Former Helix Highlander Jack Stronach went 2 for 4 for UCLA as they defeated the Ducks of Oregon 4-2.
Former Christian Patriot Kyle Stowers went 2 for 4 with one RBI and one run scored for Stanford as they fell to Arizona State 6-5.
May 24:
Former Grossmont Foothiller Ben Brault pitched 5.2 innings, gave up three hits, two runs (two earned) and three walks for the Pittsburgh Pirates as they were defeated by the Los Angeles Dodgers 10-2.
Former Valhalla Norseman Greg Garcia went 1 for 4 with a solo home run for the Padres as they defeated the Toronto Blue Jays 6-3. Also congratulation to Valhalla the High Norsemen for winning their CIF Division San Diego Title with a 6-5 victory over San Pasqual of Escondido.
Former Helix Highlander Jack Stronach went 0 for 2 with an RBI for UCLA as they defeated Oregon 6-5.
