COMPUTER CODING PROGRAM IS LAUNCHING IN SANTEE
East County News Service
July 18, 2019 (Santee) -- ThoughtSTEM, a San Diego county based computer coding school for students ages 5 to 17, is launching classes this summer in Santee at San Diego Christian College. These classes will run from July 22nd through August 9th, and will teach all interested students the fundamentals of how computer software is made. ThoughtSTEM builds their curriculum around showing students examples of video games they know, and then helping them create their own similar gaming experience.
“We want to expand computer science education to as many areas of San Diego as we can. This summer, we are excited to launch in Santee, with a camp specifically geared towards our East County residents,” a press release states.
ThoughtSTEM believes that computer coding is the key to success for people wanting to understand how the world works. The organization’s core philosophy is that learning the language of computers should be taught like learning a foreign language; they strive for students to be fluent in the language that moves the world today.
Each year, ThoughtSTEM teaches approximately 2,000 San Diego students how the software they use works, and how they can create their own software.
“Students need to be ready to tackle the challenges that we will face in the coming decades. I believe that our ability to use computers are going to be a critical part of conquering those challenges. At ThoughtSTEM, our goal is to make students fluent in the language of computers so that they're ready to meet these challenges,” says Lindsey Handley, Ph.D., Co-Founder
ThoughtSTEM is still accepting sign-ups for this year's camps. People interested can visit thoughtstem.com/summer to learn more.
