Districts vary in COVID response: Cajon Valley keeps schools open despite 52 cases since August

November 9, 2020 (San Diego’s East County) – Four East County school districts in mountain areas have announced temporary halts to in-person learning due to winter weather and in one rural district, COVID-19. Yet other districts continue in-person instruction despite numerous cases amid the pandemic.

Julian Union Elementary School District and Warner Unified School District are conducting distance learning online today due to freezing temperatures and possible snowfall forecast.

Julian Union High School has declared a snow day, with students off but no distance learning.

Mountain Empire Union School District has reverted due to distance learning at all district schools as of Nov. 5 due to a single case of COVID-19, according to the district’s Facebook page.

Some districts are not closing schools even with numerous COVID-19 cases, however. At the Cajon Valley Union School District, schools remain open despite 52 cases since August including 9 active cases currently in 7 schools, including 7 students and 2 employees.
